Music has always been an important part
of my life. I'm not an musician, but I
take great pleasure in listening to
music. So, on this page you'll learn
more about what kind of music I'm in to now,
and what kind of music I have
listened to over the years.
The earliest recollection I have of any kind of music that I can positively
link to a specific group or artist, is the music of ABBA. I remember ABBA because
my parents used to play their music from the mid 1970s when I was seven to eight
years old. I had this small tape (audio cassette) player with a radio, and I
remember I used to play tapes of ABBA on it. I also used to listen to music on
the radio, and not only Norwegian stations, but also foreign stations like
Radio Luxenburg.
Throughout the 1980s my interest for music grew stronger. I started to buy more
music, and I also saved enough money to buy my first quality stereo. It was a
Technics rack with phono, tuner, amplifier and a double cassette player/recorder
in separate units. The speakers that came with the stereo wasn't to impressive,
so I bought a pair of JVC Zero 2 speakers instead.
My collection of LPs and MCs wasn't very big when the CD started to make its way
into the market. I was very quick to embrace this new platform, in fact I think
I was the first person to buy a CD player in our little village :-). I remember
there was a lot of discussions back and forth amongst experts and vinyl diehards
about the sound quality on this new storage device. I didn't pay much attention
to that debate. I knew my stereo wasn't sophisticated enough to pick up on the
minute details in the sound that they were quarreling about. So I simply read
the technical specifications on the CD player, and quickly concluded that it was
far superior when it came to accuracy, handling and ease of use - so I bought one.
When I look through my CD collection from that period of time, I find artists like
Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Dire Straits, Eurythmics, Prince, Pretenders, Pink
Floyd, CCR, Bon Jovi, Leonard Cohen, Falco, Blondie and Chris de Burgh.
Then came the 1990s, and I can honestly say that I didn't buy a big amount of
records in that decade. Couldn't find many new interesting artists with more than
a 'one hit wonder' to buy a record from, but there are a few exceptions; Sheryl Crow,
Enya, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Natalie Imbruglia, Lene Marlin, Garbage and
Texas (...hmmmm, lot of women....)............and The Corrs!
The past few years I've been a really big fan of The Corrs, buying all the records
they've released. I've also found a few new interesting artists like; Travis, Dido,
Robbie Williams and Katie Melua, but the focus have really been on
The Corrs.
